My name is John, and I am living with aquagenic urticaria—a rare, uncurable condition that causes my skin to break out in painful sores and hives whenever it comes into contact with water. This condition affects every part of my life. I cannot shower, drink, or even touch most water without suffering severe reactions. The sores cover my arms, back, chest, legs, underarms, skull, and face, and they often drain onto my clothes and bedding. I have to be extremely careful with everything I touch, and even scratching my skin can trigger a reaction. The pain and discomfort are constant, and the mental toll of seeing and feeling these wounds every day is exhausting. I have tried to manage my symptoms on my own, but with such a rare condition, I cannot move forward in life without the help of others. There are no support groups for this rare condition, and I often feel isolated and misunderstood. Simple things like taking a shower, which most people take for granted, are a source of pain for me.
Two years ago, my life changed even more when I was hit by a drunk driver traveling at 90 mph. The accident left me with severe back pain that doctors have not been able to treat successfully. I have tried physical therapy, steroid injections, and pain management, but nothing has worked. Now, I can’t stand or walk for more than ten minutes without intense pain. Everyday tasks like washing dishes or climbing stairs are a struggle. The combination of my chronic condition and the injuries from the accident has made it nearly impossible to work, and I lost my job as a result. I have been denied disability benefits and am now facing significant debt, with no car to get to medical appointments or potential jobs.
I am raising funds to help cover the costs of finding a specialist immunologist, running essential medical tests, and seeking treatment for both my aquagenic urticaria and accident-related pain. I also need help purchasing a reliable car and hiring a lawyer to appeal my disability case. Your support will help me access the care I need, regain some independence, and work toward a better quality of life. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any help you can offer.
