Donation protected
John Parris — artist, father, partner, friend, and educational media designer — died on Sunday June 30, 2024 after a brief illness.
John's art was at the center of his richly peopled life.
His daughter Carson Parris, also an artist, is planning a legacy exhibition of his artwork, to be held later in 2024 or in 2025.
Please consider a donation to the John Parris Legacy Art Exhibition. This will help defray costs Carson will incur in preparing the exhibit — cataloguing, restoring, storing and transporting the work.
Any unused funds will be donated to causes John cared deeply about.
Thank you.
"Most days I travel by train from New Jersey to New York City. The railroad cuts a transect through the back end of everything, offering glimpses of pathos in castoff objects and neglected structures. This landscape is the home of Smithson’s monuments, the Meadowlands, the Pulaski Skyway, AJ’s strip club, and a great blue heron perched on a partially submerged tractor-trailer. In other travels through my neighborhoods in the Oranges, the vernacular landscaping of homes and business provides a rich source for my formal reveries. In yards, driveways, and parking lots, the quotidian quest for order collapses, leaving inexplicable collections of forms, and materials. It is these forms—obvious and banal—yet charged with human intentionality, that are my preoccupation."
