Hey Folks, my name is John Cosgriff and my son, who many of you know, is Johnny Coz.
Johnny had a bad motorcycle accident on Sept. 19th, when he took a wide turn on an expressway ramp, hit the curb, and was thrown over his bike and slammed onto the concrete with the left side of his head.
He was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and underwent cranial surgery to relieve pressure from his swelling brain, during which the left skull section was removed. This skull section will be put back in place in the next 2-4 weeks according to the neurologist.
He suffered what they call a "TBI" (Traumatic Brain Injury) and a small fracture in the C3 vertebrae, which was the only other injury sustained in the accident.
This week will mark his fourth week in the hospital, and he has been blessed with the best medical staff in the area for this type of traumatic injury. He is doing well, and I know he has reached out to many of you via text or calls. His girlfriend Adriana has been there all day every day and deserves our love and gratitude, and his great friend Melissa Mariconda has been invaluable with the hours spent taking notes, talking to doctors, and offering aftercare after his hospital stay is over. His aunt Mariane Griffin has been there from the beginning and our aweome friend Mary Clare Cadigan has been bring treats and nourishment for all the hard=working nurses and staff (you have no idea what a physical and thankless job nurses have until you stay in the hospital day after day, they deserve way more than they get!!). And I must mention Julianne Scully who has always been there and has made "Team Coz" wrtistbands at her own expense and who has already given me donations from Johnny's biker friends, which I will post here. Thanks you Juli! Beautiful and amazing friends, all of you!
The reason we are organizing a GoFundMe for him is that he is obviously going to be out of work for some time, as his rehab continues, and will have no income to pay bills, etc. There may be medical bills, rehab expenses, etc.
Johnny is a special person; charismatic, funny, giving; a guy who will do anything for friends and family, and if you are reading this, you probably already know that. He has more friends, and best friends, than most of us combined, because he is who he is and he is always there when you really need him.
He has had some challenges and setbacks in his life, but has always fought back, like the warrior he is, to learn from his mistakes and to share his story with others who might need someone to talk to.
I hate asking people for money or favors, but if you know Johnny and feel like you would like to help him out at this difficult time, that would mean a lot to him and to his family and friends. These are tough times for some of you out there, and we get it, so don't feel like you have to do this, but if you can, that would be great!
Your prayers and actions and positive vibes have been felt and he couldn't have gotten this far without them, so thank you all for that!
