On October 4, 2025, John-David Bickel, a devoted husband, loving father, active church member, and Virginia native was seriously injured in a tragic rock-climbing accident while climbing with his teenage son at Seneca Rocks, West Virginia.
What started as a meaningful day of adventure and connection took a devastating turn when John-David suffered a severe fall. He was airlifted from the scene and is currently in a coma in the ICU, fighting for his life.
John David is a deeply loved member of his church and community, known for his warmth, resilience, and generosity. He and his wife are raising two wonderful teenage children, and this sudden accident has left their family facing unimaginable emotional and financial challenges.
Your donation will help cover:
• Intensive care and hospital treatment
• Emergency transport and medivac expenses
• Ongoing rehabilitation and long-term recovery costs
• Living and travel support for his wife and children during this time
No amount is too small. If you’re unable to donate, please help by sharing this fundraiser with others who may be able to offer support.
John David has always been there for his family, church, and community. Now it’s our turn to stand by him.
The doctors said if John-David pulls through, we are looking at extensive rehabilitation (as in months, possibly years) in the hopes of him regaining some form of independent living. In the natural, this does not look good, but our hope is in God, our healer and our strength in times of trouble. But recovery can be anything from a completely vegetative state where he will need full-time nursing care to a full recovery and everything in between.
I had to have the most heart-wrenching conversation with our children I’ve ever had to have. I had to explain to them the very real possibility that even with all that the doctors are doing for their father, we may still have to say good-bye. As you can imagine, they took it hard. I held them both while we all sobbed. We are gutted and broken and just want John-David back. Our hope is in the Lord, but it doesn’t change how hard this has been on us to see our hero completely broken.
We are truly grateful for any amount you’re able to give. If you are unable to give monetarily, then please pass this on to someone who might be able to. We appreciate and covet your prayers. The outpouring of love and support we have already received has been so overwhelming. We are incredibly thankful for it all!
