Yesterday (1/25) at about 12 noon, Johnathan Spence was outside and was struck by a falling limb during the ice storm. We called 911, but only the fire department was able to get to us due to the roads being extremely iced over. The fire engine was able to fit him inside on a backboard and met the ambulance halfway. When he finally arrived at the hospital, they found out his back was broken and he was in critical condition. He needed neurosurgery immediately. The neurosurgeon was not able to get there due to ice, and there was no way to fly him out yet. We waited all night, and finally, at 9 this morning (1/26), the neurosurgeon arrived, and he was able to have the surgery!! He is now in ICU and is trying to recover. They are going to get physical therapy helping him try to have feeling in his legs as soon as possible. There still is not a certainty that he will ever walk again, but we are trying to be optimistic. We are asking for lots of thoughts and prayers! Thank you all!
