My friend and colleague, Jon Wagoner, was hit by a car while riding his motorcycle home late on October 8th 2024. Jon is a native of Staunton, Virginia. Locals may remember him from tending bar at Clock Tower Eats for 2 years, or from his current role as lead Bartender at Queen City Bistro on East Beverley St. Jon is well known for his kind and welcoming spirit and his delicious custom beverages. He is a pleasure to work with, a loyal friend and genuinely interested in the well-being of others.
Late on October 8th, 2024 Jon was waiting for the light to change at the intersection of Erikson Ave and S High St. Across from him was a white Chevy Cruiser in the left hand turn lane. When the light changed Jon began to cross the intersection. Unfortunately the driver of the Chevy Cruiser simultaneously began their left turn, seemingly unaware of the oncoming motorcycle with right of way. The collision sent Jon flying through the air and totalled his bike.
The next thing Jon remembers is finding himself the on the pavement in extreme pain.
The driver of the Cruiser was charged on the scene with failure to yield right of way. The driver's insurance company, State Farm, has concluded that Jon was at no fault for the accident.
Jon sustained multiple pelvic fractures, two sprained wrists and heavy bruising. The doctor estimates that he will be confined to a wheel chair for the next 6-8 weeks. He will be unable to work during this painful recovery period.
While we are grateful that the other driver was insured, any settlement will take months to materialize. This is where we need your help. We are reaching out to our community to help Jon keep his lights on, rent paid, and his beloved cats, Anya and Squirt, well cared for until he can return to work.
Jon is extremely grateful for the outpouring of kind wishes he's received and the financial help stirred up by this campaign. Please help us reach our fundraising goal so that Jon's attention can be focused on healing instead of scrambling to maintain stability. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a meaningful difference.
Since I've come to Staunton, I have found that this community cares deeply about their neighbors, in a way that I've always wanted. I believe that if we all pitch in a bit, we will all be better off for it.
Thank you for your generosity and support.
