Support John Small

Just before Christmas 2014 while living with our  brother Joe in Las Vegas, John was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.  He had recently moved to Las Vegas to begin a new chapter of life after battling chronic pain issues for 20 years.  He went to a local Urgent Care  because he  had been suffering from  severe headaches and recurrent bloody noses.  His lab results indicated he was quite ill.  He spent Christmas week in the hospital and was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.   True to John's personality he never complained.  He quietly accepted the news and began researching and educating himself about this complicated cancer.  He started chemo and was able to have  an autologous stem cell  transplant plant at UCLA in Sept. 2015.  He was hopeful for remission for several years but that did not happen.  His cancer has been very active over the past 6 months and he is now at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas, starting aggressive treatment.  For those of you who know our family, you know we are not "small" - there are 6 of us, but  we are scattered across the country.  John has been living with Joe in Las Vegas... if you follow them on facebook they have a lot of fun together.  Jim and Robyn accompanied John in LA through the bone marrow transplant.  Scott has tried to visit often from LA .  I recently visited John in Las Vegas and his gentle spirit and sense of  humor still amaze me.
John is now needing to travel to Houston for treatment.  He has new travel and lodging expenses as well as medical bills. He never complains, never asks for help, and somehow has not lost his sense of humor.  Jim's birthday is today and he is spending today and the next 2 weeks with John at the hospital in Houston.   I texted Jim this morning to wish him  happy birthday and he forgot it was his birthday.  I am so grateful that he is with John today.  As a birthday gift to Jim I am opening this "gofundme" page  for John.
