Support John: Prevent Homelessness After Hardship
Donation protected
Hi, I'm John's sister Dana. I'm heading this effort to keep him in his home as he's facing eviction in 10 days. My brother is a recovered addict, a hard worker, and a wonderful cat dad. However, years of addiction and mental health struggles have left him in a place of inability to gain financial freedom and due to his mental health issues, he is at capacity with his job washing dishes at a local restaurant. He has mental health care and related supports in place, and he has me. I have been his POA for over 5 years and I handle his finances and help manage a lot of his day-to-day needs. Recently, he had large vehicle expenses and one of his two beloved cats passed away. We have been working with the courts and the trailer park management where he lives to try to meet a payment agreement for the past few months, but unfortunately they have decided to move forward with a lockout and eviction if not paid before 10/8/24. While the additional expenses prevented him from meeting the payment arrangement we had, he does typically earn enough money to cover his monthly expenses. He does not have a safe place to live if this eviction happens.
A portion of the $3500 we're asking for is overdue rent, a portion of that amount is the added court fees etc, and the rest is the current rent amount due. This amount will get him current with park management and allow the ability to make his normal lot rent payments with his own income. There have been large annual increases in the lot rent at this particular park for a handful of years now, which certainly hasn't helped. We have been working on finding a more financially-suitable living situation for a long time but no resources have become available yet. My only true goal right now is to keep his roof over his head until we have a better solution. We have tried every avenue I can think of to get him into a better home, but we all know how expensive housing is currently. A one bedroom apartment will cost more than his current home.
If you are able, please help me help him by donating. I really am the only person he has to count on in this, and I am unable to simply write a check to fix things. I'm asking for support from all of you, to aid in getting his feet solidly on the ground. He's worked so hard to get sober and healthy, and has held his job for a long time now because of the effort he puts in. Please help me to prevent homelessness being his next hurdle to overcome. I believe in my heart of hearts that's he's fought too hard to end up without a home.
All donations will go directly to this effort, and the gratitude I have for everyone able to help is endless.
Thank you,
John's little sister, Dana
