Support John Paul's Bone Marrow Transplant
Donation protected
My younger brother, John Paul, needs a bone marrow transplant. In 2021, he was diagnosed with CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia). After 6 months of IV chemo, he reached remission, but his bone density was so low he needed bone marrow infusions.
John Paul had been doing great until Christmas 2024. We could tell he wasn’t feeling well, and in January, he was diagnosed with MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndromes). The oncologist thinks this type of cancer was likely caused by the strong chemo he endured to battle the CLL. MDS will eventually turn into Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). John Paul’s MDS is the most severe case – high risk, which is 6 months to 1 year before it turns into AML.
John Paul, his wife Robyn, and their sign language interpreter traveled over 6 hours to meet with doctors at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Once a bone marrow donor is found, John Paul will undergo the transplant.
John Paul will be in the hospital in Houston for at least 5 weeks, then will need to live nearby for 4 to 5 months so that he can go in every day for monitoring. Robyn’s employer is great, and she will be able to work remotely and stay with John Paul in Houston. But, the expenses will be immense.
I’m setting up this GoFundMe for anyone who would like to help with the expenses of the surgery, as well as the housing and meals while in Houston. It will be such a difficult time with them being two states away and going through all of this. We appreciate all of John Paul and Robyn’s friends and family who have helped and supported them through this time, and as always, we appreciate all the prayers that he will have a successful outcome this time.
