My dad, John McWhorter, was found by his brother laying face down on the ground on January 16th, 2026, via a video chat. His brother, Bradley, had been out of town working when he realized he hadn't checked on my dad in 2 days. Their Amazon Alexa answered the video call, and he saw my dad on the ground. My dad was unable to respond to him other than to say, "yeah." My uncle called 911 and had an ambulance pick him up. Once they arrived at the hospital, they determined that sometime in the last few days, he had a massive stroke. He is currently still in the ICU a week later, completely paralyzed on the right side of his body and unable to speak. He has a feeding tube because they aren't sure he can clear his own airway in the event he chokes. He is having what the doctors believe to be diabetic seizures and is on multiple medications. He has multiple clogged arteries in his brain that they’re unable to operate on. He will need a lot of therapy and round-the-clock care. Unfortunately, he has been unable to work for quite a few years and does not have insurance. If he makes it out of the hospital, it will be a very long, expensive road.
