Our dear friend John Loomis is 41 years old, a devoted husband to Brook and a loving dad to their two boys, Julian and Jack. About a month ago, John was admitted to Northwestern Hospital in Chicago after becoming critically ill with Anti-MDA5-positive dermatomyositis, a rare autoimmune disease that has caused severe damage to his lungs. What began as an unimaginable diagnosis has become a fight for his life.

Right now, John is in the ICU on a ventilator, heavily sedated, and fully dependent on his medical team as he waits for a double-lung transplant. While John is fighting through each day in the hospital, Brook is carrying so much at home and by his side, caring for Julian and Jack and trying to hold her family together through a situation that has turned their world upside down.

Even with hope for a transplant, the road ahead will be long. John and his family are facing extended hospitalization, transplant and recovery-related medical care, rehabilitation, travel and daily expenses, time away from work, and the many unexpected costs that come with a medical crisis like this. Support from this fundraiser will help ease that financial burden so Brook and the boys can focus on John and on getting through the difficult days ahead.
