Support John Heiney's Stroke Recovery
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Bailey Heiney, and I am raising funds for my dad, John Heiney. Last Sunday, April 20th, my dad suffered a large cerebellar stroke on the left side of his brain, causing extreme dizziness, nausea, headaches, garbled speech, temporary paralysis, incoordination, and confusion; during this time, he also contracted COVID-19, which intensified his symptoms. Thankfully, there was no active bleeding in the brain, but the (incredible) doctors and nurses found that an artery in his brain is extremely thin, which cut off blood supply, causing the stroke. For a week, my dad was in the Trauma Neurological Intensive Care Unit at Lancaster General Hospital.
Since November of 2024, my dad had lost his job, and had been actively searching for jobs in Pennsylvania, desperate to find health insurance, up until he was put into the ICU for his stroke. Due to my father's lack of health insurance, and how long and difficult the process is for applying to Medicaid and disability, we thought the next best thing would be to kickstart a GoFundMe.
If you know my dad, you know that asking for help in this context and to this extent is difficult, as he has always been incredibly proud and independent. However, life happens, and sometimes we need to depend on those in our community to guide and help us towards stability. There is no shame in asking for help!
The funds gathered from this GoFundMe will be directly used for paying off the medical bills from the ICU at Lancaster General Hospital. We are currently trying to apply for financial assistance through the hospital as well, and will keep up to date on how other resources can help. Any assistance is much appreciated, as well as prayers! Thank you!
