Support John Gothro's Battle Against Cancer

Hello friends and family,

I am starting this GoFundMe with the reluctant permission of my brother in law, John Gothro, his wife Sarah, and their daughter Lauren. They didn’t want to go this route and it’s so hard to ask for help, but in this case it’s necessary. It’s tough to not only get hit with cancer, but to take another beating by losing your job within a very short time frame, is devastating.

John was diagnosed with bladder cancer in February 2023, and he underwent surgery to have tumors removed. All 3 tumors grew back aggressively so the doctors tried BCG immune therapy. After the tumors grew back another time, the plan of action changed to chemotherapy. The surgeries and therapies required multiple-day hospital stays – sometimes extensive. After 3 rounds of chemo John got a septic infection which landed him in the hospital for 12 days. As you can imagine, or know, if you or a loved one has been through medical challenges, the bills add up quickly.

The next blow was when John was laid off from his job of 13 years in May 2024, when the company he worked for was sold. John lost his income and they also lost Sarah's health insurance. They have had to get on social security for John and pay for insurance for Sarah. While both Sarah and their daughter Lauren are working, they are also taking care of John at home, taking him to many appointments, and of course visiting him the many times that he has been hospitalized. Currently John has a tumor in a bad spot in the bladder, so it is inoperable. He will be starting radiation and/or chemo again, very soon.

If you know John, he is always there for any of his family members or friends. He’s the first to help out any way he can. It’s now his time to accept help.
