On March 4, 2025, my brother-in-law, John Flood, suffered an aortic dissection, requiring emergency open-heart surgery with a staggering 90% mortality rate. Against all odds, John survived the surgery but then faced immediate heart and kidney failure. A true fighter, John refused to give up. He was revived three times, placed on a ventilator, underwent a tracheotomy, and was put on both dialysis and an ECMO machine. Remarkably, he battled his way from the ICU to rehab. However, in July, he suffered a significant setback and has been back in the ICU ever since. He still faces a long and challenging road, but he continues to fight, surrounded by his family's unwavering support.

 

John is a dearly loved husband to Debbie, a devoted father of 6, grandfather of 17, and great-grandfather of 6. His distinguished law enforcement career spanned six decades, during which he served as a retired NYPD detective, a narcotics agent, and an investigator with the District Attorney's office for the Organized Crime Task Force. For countless years, he bravely risked his life to safeguard our communities.

 

John is the patriarch of our large family and has been such a huge part of all our children's lives. He and my sister always opened their home to everyone. He would regale us with stories around the dinner table from his career, always making us laugh. Everyone is always welcome at the Flood home. Now they need our help.

 

John has been in and out of the hospital and rehab over the last six months. He is currently in the ICU, fighting hard. His medical benefits are nearing their end, and the costs are quickly mounting, adding to the previous out-of-pocket expenses.
