Hi everyone,
My name is Breanna Bolwerk, and I’m John’s girlfriend. As some of you may know, in November 2023, at just 37 years old, John was diagnosed with colon cancer. He bravely underwent colon resection surgery in December, and we were so relieved when the doctors were confident that they had removed all the cancer. However, during John’s 6-month follow-up in July, we received news that changed everything.
A routine CT scan revealed nodules in both of John’s lungs that weren’t present before, raising concern for our oncologist. Further testing, including a PET scan and lung biopsy, confirmed our worst fear: the colon cancer had returned, now in his lungs. John is now facing stage IV colon cancer.
Despite this life-altering diagnosis, John remains the incredible, positive person he’s always been. Even through the fear and uncertainty, he continues to be a source of light and strength for everyone around him, from friends and family to the doctors and nurses who care for him. He inspires me, and I know he inspires many others as well.
John has recently undergone surgery to have a port put in, and his chemotherapy treatments will begin mid-September. He will receive treatments every two weeks for the next six months.
Many people have reached out, asking how they can help during this difficult time. We’ve created this GoFundMe to help with the growing medical expenses that come with tests, procedures, scans, appointments, and treatments. While we are grateful to have health insurance, the bills continue to add up. We don’t want anyone to feel pressured, but any donations or shares would mean the world to us and would help alleviate some of the financial stress.
