Donation protected
To family and friends of John and Jenna it brings me great sadness to write this post. As you know John and Jenna were expecting their second baby in September, some of you will be aware of the devastating events that have taken place that will change their lives forever.
Baby Tahlia Irene Rose McLachlan was due September 11th 2020. With anticipation growing all day on the 11th but no signs of her arrival we all rested knowing we would need to patiently wait at least another day to meet this baby girl. But baby Tahlia had other plans. At 11pm that night Jenna laboured quickly, in excitement John and Jenna rushed to the hospital with their Midwife and Doula straight behind them. Little Tahlia just couldn’t wait, she was born 10 minutes later just before midnight. They had to pull over and John delivered her on the side of the highway. Tahlia was born crying into her dads’ arms. Jenna felt so proud and euphoric of the amazing natural birth she prepared so hard to have and even better, John got to be the first person she met.
Unfortunately, the events that followed were life changing and traumatic. Something no parent should ever have to go through. Tahlia's unexpected and unnecessary fight for life started on the side of the road that night shortly after her birth and despite the best efforts of the hospital staff she could not be saved. We can’t give too many details about what happened right now. John and Jenna will update people when they can. I ask that people have patience and allow for privacy while an investigation takes place.
What I can tell you is that beautiful Baby Tahlia was in NICU for 3 days while doctors and nurses tried their hardest to keep her alive. Her body was being kept alive those three days but her soul was already dancing in Heaven. She ultimately passed away from Hypoxic-ischemic Encephalopathy which is from her brain not receiving the oxygen she needed to survive.
Instead of taking their baby home and a celebration of new life our families are now planning a funeral to commemorate Tahlia's 3 days of life. With Jenna's parents in Canada and Johns in Victoria they are without a lot of the family support they need right now and I am asking for support to help them and little Johnny with the long and hard road ahead.
They need time to grieve, to process what has happened and to work out what to do next. I am hoping friends and family can assist with financial support for day to day living costs so John can take time off work, to assist with funeral expenses. Any amount you can offer will be deeply appreciated.
