Hello, my name is Johanna, and I thank you for taking a moment to read my story. My husband, Mike, and I are asking for help with the care of a steady flow of community cats in our neighborhood. Our goal is to slow population growth by caring for these animals now.
Since moving into our home in early 2023 with our four indoor cats, we noticed that there was a presence of outdoor cats that were being fed by a neighbor. It wasn’t until that Summer—when one of the outdoor cats gave birth—that we realized we needed to take action and begin to spay/neuter these animals to control the population growth. Throughout Fall/Winter 2023, we learned to trap and began making spay/neuter and vaccination appointments for the outdoor cats. We also began feeding the cats at this time, and made shelters for the cold and inclement weather. Since that time, we have found forever homes for seven community cats and provided spay/neuter and vaccinations for nearly 15 community cats.
Both Spring 2024 and 2025 have brought new kittens to the neighborhood, which has posed additional challenges. We have luckily become affiliated as trapper/fosters with a local rescue that covers the cost of veterinary care for our fosters, but we cover the cost of food, litter and miscellaneous pets supplies for those that we intake. That is on top of spay/neuter and vaccination appointments and food for the outdoor cats that we aren’t currently fostering. Any money donated will go to these costs.
We appreciate you hearing our story. Any amount you are able to contribute will be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to contribute at this time, a share among your circle would also be a huge help.
