Let's Help Joey Horist finally make it to Mayo Clinic!

Joey has been to numerous hospitals and Universities in the City of Chicago over the last 4 years, had dozens of tests, and even had surgery on his eye. Even after all that, his Oculoplastic surgeon still can not figure out where this mysterious fluid is coming from that is leaking out of a hole in the white of his eye. Because of this, he suffers from extreme pressure in that eye, sees double vision and has a very hard time with certain lighting. He now suffers from migraine headaches on a daily basis.

His Doctor referred him to Mayo Clinic at the end of May. They filled out all the paper work and submitted the insurance information. His mother was told to talk to the insurance company to get a pre-approval since Mayo Clinic was out of network. Aetna sent an approval letter back in July. They were all set to leave on Sunday, 8/17. On Thursday they got a call from Mayo and they told them not to come because they did not take the Aetna Plan he had since it is a State Funded Program and it is considered the primary insurance (Medicare is considered secondary). After Joey's Mom spoke to Mayo, she immediately called and canceled the Aetna Insurance so that Joey will now only have Medicare A&B, and he can be seen at Mayo Clinic. That is how desperate they are to get into Mayo.

This is what Joey needs for a chance at recovery. Having only this insurance is definitely going to cause a huge financial strain, as they will have to pay their deductible again on this plan and will not have the same coverage. He will no longer have prescription coverage and won't be able to go back on that plan until January 2026. They were able to reschedule for September 3rd.

They will have to rent a car because their cars are older and not reliable. They will need to get a hotel room for at least two nights, which was all in the plan, but now the added medical bills will truly put a strain on them which they were not anticipating.

Joey is a fighter. He has been dealt cards that no one should have to deal with. He has spent the majority of his life being sick, yet he continues to push forward. He is a talented writer, and a loyal friend. He has such a loving and supportive family, and they truly could use our help at this time.
