Joey never thought at fifty-six years old he’d be fighting for his life while waiting beside a phone

Before liver failure changed, Joey was the kind of person who showed up for people in need. He is a father, grandparent and a brother.

Now, every day has become a battle just to stay strong enough to survive until a liver becomes available.

Over the past several months, Joey has been in and out of the hospital. It all started a one er visit that turned into devastating news: his liver was failing. Doctors told him a he needed a liver transplant to keep living.

He was finally placed on the transplant list, life has completely changed, the unknown if he will receive a transplant or not is the scary part.

Simple things most people take for granted are now difficult. Walking across the room leaves him exhausted. The medications, treatments, and constant hospital stays have taken a toll physically, emotionally, and financially. Joey barely recognizes the man staring back at him in the mirror, but he keeps fighting because he wants more time with the people he loves.

Most of all, Joey wants the chance to live long enough to receive the call that could save his life. He has 3 kids and 5 grandkids that he enjoy watching them grow, he would like to continue to watch them grow.

But the reality of waiting for a transplant is overwhelming. Between travel for medical care, hospital stays, medications, lost income, and the expenses that come with preparing for transplant surgery and recovery, the financial burden has become more than one family can carry alone.
