Hello! Our family lost Joey Gouin recently and would appreciate your time to read about his life, and hopefully donate anything you can spare.

TLDR; Joey Kenneth Gouin has passed away unexpectedly, and we are struggling to come up with the money to give him a funeral.

Joey was an unforgettable person. He was a brother, an uncle, a pet owner, and a friend to many people all over the states. He is leaving behind his mother, Dianne, and his two sisters, Sonya and Treena. Anyone who got to know him would tell you that he was a funny, emotional person with many interesting stories to tell. He was always making friends everywhere he went, and he was always traveling. He had a good memory, able to memorize countless verses from the Bible, which he enjoyed studying in his free time. He gave thoughtful, memorable gifts, even though he didn’t have much money to spare. And everyone would tell you that he was a master on the grill; we will all sorely miss the burgers and hotdogs he would make at family gatherings.
A lifelong battle with drug addiction and mental illness made holding down a home difficult for Joey. He struggled to live alone, and would often live an urban outdoorsman lifestyle or live with a family member when he could. He was living with chronic illnesses such as diabetes and Crone’s disease as well, which made taking care of himself even harder without help or a consistent income. Despite the hardships he endured, he was a well-loved member of the family; everyone was happy to support him however they could when he needed it.
On ~majestic gardens enter date~, Joey would spend his first night at Majestic Gardens Rehabilitation And Skilled Nursing Center, where he would receive physical therapy. His body endured significant damage from multiple strokes, seven of them in total, and he was unable to walk on his own or take care of himself. Family members came to visit him regularly, and other than some complaints about the food, he at least seemed to be making progress with his legs.
The rest of the story gets a bit confusing. On March 11, Joey was put on a bus that was allegedly taking him to a new location; the Hope House group home in Memphis. Instead, he was taken to his mother’s house all the way in Bruceton, but couldn’t even get inside because the door was locked and Dianne, his mother, was away from home at the time, which meant he had to wait outside for hours without any food or water. He stayed there until March 22nd, where he would pass away in his sleep. Dianne found him dead the following morning.
The suddenness of his death has been a heartbreaking shock to the family, but worst of all is that even with the least expensive option- cremation at a local cemetery- we cannot afford the cost out of pocket on our own. By Saturday, we will need $2,081.76 to cover it.
If you’re a family member or a friend of Joey’s, or even a stranger who happened upon this; if this story touches you at all, please consider donating to help support us! Even a small donation is a big help, and if you can’t donate, please consider sharing this with others who might be able to. Thank you very much for reading.
