Funeral expenses for Joseph (Joey) Devivo
Donation protected
11/06 After a two weeklong fight, we are saddened to share that Joey has passed on as of this afternoon. Joey was an incredible person and being such, he chose to donate his viable organs to save other lives. His medical bills will be astronomical, and we are needing some help with his funeral expenses so any donations made will go towards medical bill acquired during joeys' hospital stay at Westchester medical and towards his cremation and as per his wishes, a large picnic in his memory.
If you can't donate, we ask that you share this post.
On Tuesday, 10/22, my brother-in-law was found unresponsive in his home where he was then rushed to Glens Falls Hospital. There, we were told he needed a liver transplant and was in kidney failure and had to be flown via helicopter to Westchester Medical Center. Upon arrival, the doctors told us he was in critical condition and weren't sure he was going to survive as his organs were shutting down. He had fluid around his brain and no brain activity, pneumonia, a UTI, and had sepsis as well as a very shallow heart rhythm. He had to be placed on 3 blood pressure meds to regulate his blood pressure, was placed on a ventilator, a tube to clear the fluid around his brain, and heavy antibiotics to clear the infections and sepsis. Joey was then placed on dialysis to help detox the kidneys as well. He will also be needing a transplant once the majority of these are taken care of and he becomes more stable.
As of today, 10/27, Joseph "Joe or Joey" to most, has been taken off the ventilator and breathing on his own, off of the blood pressure medications, the sepsis is almost completely cleared, and the pneumonia is gone. Joey is currently off sedation and starting to make small but great strides towards recovery, surprising us all, including his doctors and medical team. His recovery will be a very long journey and an extremely costly one as the medical bills are already starting to pile up as well as his home bills.
