As many of you are aware, a week after Joey’s 5th birthday, he was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This diagnosis was completely unexpected for our family and has caused us uneasiness in ways we never imagined. Joey has been in the hospital ever since, and we still do not have a definite release date for him due to several complications that have arisen during our time here.
The treatment for Joey’s leukemia involves a two and a half to three-year course of chemotherapy and countless other medications. Joey also qualifies for a clinical trial of a drug that has shown promise in significantly reducing the chance of the cancer returning later in life. Thankfully, the long-term prognosis for Joey is overwhelmingly positive.
The outpouring of love, check-ins, and support has truly been humbling. Our family and friends have been there every step of the way, and we could not appreciate it more. We are asked almost daily what we need or how someone can help. Many of you have already done so much, and we are eternally grateful.
We do not make this request for donations in the hopes that anyone will give more than they have or more than they can, but as we start to look at the costs we are going to incur over the next three years, we are concerned about the financial impact this treatment is going to bring to our family.
Those of you who are able to provide financial support to our family, please know that these funds will only be used towards the medical bills and clinical trial costs that we will incur over the next three years. Any additional funds left over will be donated after this burden is behind us. Our plan is to donate to one of the many foundations that support families in similar situations to Joey’s.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support and generosity.
