Support Joey's Battle Against Brain Cancer

2025 has been a nightmare. On January 1st, Joey was having some alarming symptoms: right side numbness, thick tongue speech, and facial drooping. So, we decided to go to the SEH ER to get checked out and make sure it was nothing serious. He had his wisdom teeth extracted, and we thought that it was nerve issues from the extraction. After being fast-tracked to the back, tests were run, and results came back; it was not nerve issues. A CT scan showed that Joey had a 4cm mass in his left frontal lobe and was being admitted to the neurocritical ICU. We were absolutely floored with this news.

On Friday, January 3rd, Joey was scheduled for brain surgery to have this mass removed and sent off for testing to find out what it was. Joey had the surgery and then developed a complication within an hour of him returning to his room. He had a complete neurochange, and they did stat CT scans, which showed he had a severe bleed and midline shift (brain shift). Six hours after coming out of his first surgery, they rushed him back for a second craniotomy to remove and try to get control of the bleed. By God's hands, Dr. Bentley was able to get the bleed under control, and Joey was put on a ventilator to allow his brain to heal. Six days he was on a vent, the longest six days of my life waiting for my best friend to wake up and talk to me. On day 7, I came in excited to see that they had taken him off the vent, and he had already walked a few steps with physical therapy on his own! From this point forward, it has been progress in getting his strength back, being able to use his right hand, and doing speech therapy.

After 10 days of impatiently waiting for the results to come in, they came in. Straight from Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Results showed it is High-grade Glioblastoma (stage 4 brain cancer). The physicians have given Joey many options, and he has decided he wants to fight. Joey will start radiation and chemo at Southeast Cancer Center next week. At this time, we just ask for good vibes, prayers, advice on financial, fundraisers, assistance, medical is welcomed as well. Please share his story and assist if you are able.

Started chemo pills and radiation Jan 27th today makes 3 of 42 treatment. He is in good spirits and only complains about being tired which is to be expected. His oncology team now has him on a schedule and routine with treatments. Thank you to everyone that has shared, and donated to him. Everyday he gets a little stronger and counting each day as a blessing.

Day 6 of 42 of radiation treatments. The weekend was so beautiful and peaceful. Joey says that meat is starting to have different tastes. They don't taste bad they just taste different now. The Dr is now wanting to check his sugar twice a day with a sliding scale of insulin with him being in steroids twice a day it affects his sugars. Joey is in great spirits this morning which is a blessing. He is getting stronger each day, things are getting a little easier each day. Thank you for continuing to pray for Joey and us during this time.

Day 9 of 42. Joey woke up early and said he had his voice back for a few minutes but now back to a whisper again. They had to work on the radiation machines this morning so they moved his appointment even earlier. Still rocking it out with no problems and no pain.
