Hey everyone, as some of you may know Joey had a lifesaving lung transplant in April of 2023 due to lung failure from chemotherapy complications. Over the last 2 years, Joey has had a really tough time medically. He’s been readmitted to the hospital multiple times for infections, acute rejection episodes, and subsequent surgeries and is now experiencing kidney failure from the immunosuppressants he’s on to keep his lung transplant from rejecting. Before the lung transplant, Joey already had chronic kidney disease as a result of his type 1 diabetes, so they knew he’d eventually need a transplant but it happened a lot sooner than expected as they didn’t think his kidneys would fail for many more years. Since he’s a type 1 diabetic and they don’t want his diabetes to affect his new kidney, he is currently listed for a kidney/pancreas transplant and is on dialysis 3 days a week. I haven’t been able to work since August of 2024 due to the complications he’s had. In this time we’ve been able to make it through as I’ve been his paid caregiver through the state but unfortunately that has been exhausted. I’m in the process of applying to be a caretaker through his insurance company but they informed us it will take at least 4-6 months for approval. Anyone who knows me knows that asking for help multiple times over the last few years has been really hard for me, and I wouldn’t ask if it weren’t absolutely necessary. I appreciate anyone who’s taken the time to read our story. And thank you all for your continued support for my family.
Haylee
