Support Joey Scarvey's Fight Against Cancer

Hi, my name is Joey Scarvey and I am raising money for some unexpected medical bills. About 2 weeks ago I had a good portion of my right kidney removed because of a 3 inch mass that turned out to be renal cell carcinoma.

It all started a couple of months ago when I was having severe abdominal pain that I kept brushing off, until they became severe enough to send me to the ER. While in the ER, for what I thought was probably just a kidney stone, they did the CT scan where they initially found the mass. After a couple of more tests and a couple of tense weeks of waiting I was notified that the mass would need to be surgically removed. While they still weren't sure whether it was cancerous, the size had them leaning that direction and surgery was unavoidable. I would find out after its removal that it was actually cancer.

I hate asking for help. I have always been the one doing the helping. I am the oldest son who's always taken care of his mom. A big brother who always looks out for his little sister. An uncle who would do anything for his nieces and nephews. And I have always been the one that everyone looks to for help. While it kills me to have to create this fund raiser, I've realized I need to see if all that good karma I've put out into the world will come back to me.

I was a bartender and in the service industry for almost 15 years and I learned to live my life on the edge with little to no insurance, just like most of our service industry folks. I recently moved back to Birmingham from Tuscaloosa and was trying to transition into a new career field, and all of this happened right as I was reaching the end of my savings. It's really just been terrible timing. With no insurance to help out, it's really been tough.

I will appreciate every penny you can donate to me. Every donation will help me pay down some of these medical bills and thus allow me and my mom to keep having a place to live with lights and water.
