On July 1, 2026 my brother, Joey Norris, was wrongfully arrested and charged with 1st degree Election Misconduct (a class D felony) for his work on the absentee ballot board for Montgomery County, Iowa in the 2024 election. This charge came nearly two years after an incident where he was removed from the courthouse after respectfully asking his fellow board members to follow the rules from the handbook given to them which he had printed out, bound, and brought with him.

Anyone who knows Joey knows his love for democracy. They know his passion for civic duty. When he was asked to join the absentee ballot board in 2024 he was eager, committed, and proud to work in the election, an institution he holds sacred. For him to be accused of this, of all things, is utterly heart breaking.

Joey maintains his innocence and with that comes a costly legal battle ahead. The donations from this fundraiser will contribute directly towards his legal defense costs. In the unlikely event there are any remaining funds outside of legal defense, they will be used towards clearing his good name.

My brother is the most honest man I know and it hurts my heart that anyone is putting his integrity, good character, and future on trial when all he ever does is try to help people.
