Dear Friends and Family
In the late hours of February 24, 2024, Joseph Shannon Meeks' life took a dramatic turn. Joey, an 18-year-old known for being an amazing big brother and a loving son with a vibrant spirit, was involved in a severe car accident while returning home from work, sustaining critical injuries that have since placed him in the ICU.
Joey's condition remains critical, he suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries. Joey’s injuries include a traumatic brain injury, broken ribs, internal bleeding coming from his liver and spleen, both lungs collapsed, broken leg and several other injuries that required attention. Because of the extent of these injuries he has had several surgeries, been placed on a ventilator, and into a medically induced coma. Alongside the fractures, lacerations, and internal bleeding, he has been under constant sedation to manage the excruciating pain from these injuries.
The impact of this incident extends deeply, affecting Joey's ability to engage with the world physically and mentally as he once did. He faces a series of extensive surgeries and therapies, including critical facial, oral, and dental procedures needed to guide him back to his full self. These surgeries are just the beginning of a comprehensive recovery plan that will also involve various restorative therapies.
The reality of Joey's situation means he will be stepping back from work and many of the activities that once brought him joy, marking a long and challenging period of healing. Joey has a strong fighting spirit and, after not being expected to make it at the accident scene, he keeps showcasing his remarkable will to be here with us. With his strength and the community's unwavering support, we are filled with faith that, through our collective loving prayers, healing energies, and support, Joey will once again find his energetic and joyful essence.
This journey is more than a personal challenge; it's a testament to the toll such an ordeal can take on a person's physical and emotional well-being. As we acknowledge the long road ahead, we would like to invite you to join our families GoFundMe campaign to extend your support. Contributions will go directly toward Joey's medical and rehabilitation expenses, helping him and his family navigate this difficult time. Beyond financial aid, your encouragement and positivity are crucial to bolstering his spirits and advancing his recovery. Every gesture of support brings Joey closer to regaining his health and vitality. Joey’s Mother would like to send out the message that any, and all, prayers swell as healing energies are welcomed from all ends of the world. We are lucky and blessed to still have him with us.
With gratitude and lots of love. Blessed Be..
