Support Joey- He needs our Help

Hello Friends and Family. I need your help! My cousin Joey Barbera was diagnosed in February with Stage 3B – Esophageal Adenocarcinoma (cancer in the esophagus and lymph nodes). 

Joey has had a rough couple of months, including long hospital stays, but after finally getting a PET scan (after months of waiting), the doctors have decided to take an aggressive plan of action. He will be going through 5 weeks of Chemo (every Monday) and Radiation (Monday through Friday). He just completed his first week, and unfortunately, he is now in the ICU. He developed a pericardial effusion (fluid around his heart – 700ml worth), which could be from his cancer treatments, the cancer itself, or possibly even an infection (which they are giving IV antibiotics for). Since the doctors believe this fluid will continue to build up, Joey will be having surgery to get a pericardial window (this will provide a way for the fluid to drain if it continues to build up).

My family and I would like to ask for help for Joey, his wife, and their two young girls during these very challenging times. Since Joey is the only source of income and is no longer able to work in order to pay for bills and medical expenses, he has been worrying about how to take care of his family. His wife, Theresa, is now his 24 hour caregiver. Joey, who is deeply loved by family and friends globally, needs our collective support to help his beautiful family through this horrific time, so they can focus on healing.
