The volleyball community is built on more than competition. It is built on dedicated teammates, coaches, trainers and most importantly family. Today, we are asking this incredible community to show up for one of our own. Joey, a player on Gentlemen of Kiwi 15s, lost his father unexpectedly the day before the AAU National Championships began. Tragically, it was also Joey’s birthday. Despite unimaginable heartbreak, Joey did not want to let his team down. He came to AAU, stepped onto the court, and played with incredible strength, courage, and heart. His dad would have been so proud of him. Joey and his teammates went on to finish fifth in the Elite Division. Joey’s mom showed that same incredible strength throughout the tournament. Each day, she drove between Tampa and Orlando, sometimes making the trip more than once, while handling funeral arrangements and everything else that suddenly needed her attention. Through it all, she made sure she was back in the gym to cheer for and support her son. Now the tournament is over, and going home will be incredibly difficult.
We are asking this amazing volleyball community to help make the road ahead a little easier for Joey and his mom. Funds raised will help cover funeral expenses, provide support as they adjust to life without Joey’s father, and contribute toward Joey’s future college expenses. Every donation, share, and message of support matters. Thank you for surrounding Joey and his mom with the same strength and love they have shown during an unimaginable time. Please donate if you are able and share this fundraiser throughout the volleyball community. Let’s show Joey that he and his mom do not have to walk through this alone.
