Support Joe's Students' Trip to Inauguration

Hi, my name is Joe Cassady and I am raising funds to help my students get to Washington D.C. for the upcoming Presidential Inauguration. I have been a part of twenty years of Close Up trips to Washington with Portsmouth High School students, and three Inaugurations, but this year's trip caused a sticker shock, and I do not want the cost to get in the way of what may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for these kids. Much more than just a chance to be there for the event, Close Up builds a week around helping students understand their role as an American Citizen and what it means to participate in the processes of government. From working with other kids from across the country to debate and create legislation, to discovering the history behind the monuments across the city, to meeting with each of their representatives personally, this trip puts my teenagers in the place, with the people, where it happens.

The cost for each attendee is just over $3,200.00, but that covers everything for the eight days that they are in Washington, including travel and transportation, meals, and events. As of now, we have 20 students that have expressed interest, but if we could reduce the cost overall, then my hope is we can bring more. Lastly, Project Close Up is a non-profit, non-partisan organisation, and each of these kids will have committed to this opportunity long before the election takes place.
