On Saturday, October 25, Joe set out to complete the Ozark Trail 100-mile run. He made it to the mile 87 aid station at 9 a.m. on Sunday. He was supposed to arrive at the mile 94 aid station by noon and didn’t arrive. It was pouring down rain and cold, so when noon came and he hadn’t come through yet, they knew something was wrong.
They searched ALL OVER for 2 hours before finally calling in search and rescue. The last time anyone saw Joe was 9 a.m.
After 4 hours, the deputy found Joe. He had tried to step over a stump, and his feet/legs locked up and he couldn’t move, so Joe STOOD holding his walking poles in the cold rain.
Once he was in the ambulance, they told Kayla when they got to him he was literally frozen solid. They couldn’t get his body to move at all; they thought his bones were going to break and said it was an absolute miracle that they were able to find him and make it to him before he died from hypothermia.
The doctors ran his bloodwork and decided to transfer Joe to a hospital with an ICU because they were afraid his kidneys and liver were shutting down.
Joe is currently still in the ICU getting the care he needs. Unfortunately, this care does come at an expense and he does not have health insurance.
Joe, Kayla, and their family need to focus on his recovery. We can show our love and support by helping them through giving towards the medical expenses that come along with this process.
Any amount is helpful. Please pray and give what you feel led to do. Thank you so much for all of your prayers and support during this difficult time.
