My husband’s childhood friend Joe recently lost his leg and is now navigating life in a wheelchair. It’s been a devastating, painful transition, physically and emotionally. He’s always been a private person—he would never ask for help—but right now, I know he needs it.
Joe has a long and complicated medical history, and despite his strength and resilience, the amputation has changed everything. He served his community through the OPD (Orlando Police Department) and now lives on a fixed income. A wheelchair ramp should be a basic necessity, not a luxury—but because of some unexpected life circumstances, he’s unable to afford the kind of ramp he needs.
Here’s the challenge: neither his front porch nor garage offers a simple path for a ramp. The layout of both entryways requires custom design and installation, which makes it far more expensive than a standard ramp. After researching options, we estimate it will cost around $6,000 to build something safe, durable, and ADA-compliant.
I created this GoFundMe on Joe’s behalf, because I want to help him regain independence, dignity, and the ability to safely get in and out of his home. Whether you can give $5, $50, or simply share this with others, every bit of support matters.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
