Support Joel's Recovery: facing large medical expenses
Donation protected
I am asking for help on behalf of my parents because I know they won’t, and if they get mad at me for doing this, then so be it. I feel helpless as I’m recovering from surgery myself, so this is all I can do.
My parents were visiting me in Nashville to celebrate my engagement, and at the end of the engagement party, my dad slipped and fell on ice and completely tore his quad tendon. He is in desperate need of surgery but has not been able to make the trip home yet due to many complications. The hits keep coming, and the complications have now required him to be hospitalized in Nashville for a horrible infection that has taken over his whole leg. Doctors aren't quite sure what caused it or what it even is, but he cannot have surgery to repair his quad until it is healed.
We don't know how many days he will be hospitalized, and there is a good chance he will need to have the surgery here to save his leg and give it the best shot at recovering fully. This causes a lot of financial strain because everything being done in Nashville is out of network for his insurance, so most of this will end up being self-pay. He wants to get home, but we need to do whatever is best for the healing of his leg, even if it costs an astronomical amount.
This is why I am asking for help on behalf of them. I want my dad to focus on healing and not worry about how he's going to pay the bills. We have no idea what the final cost will be, but my best guess based on average hospital stay and surgery costs is at least $30,000. On top of all of this, my dad will be out of work for at least 3 to 6 months, and I know that that is going to cause even more financial stress and hardship, so if that is an area where you feel led to help out, that would be more of a blessing than you could realize.
If you know Joel and Linda at all, you know that they are the first to help out a friend or family member in need, even if it’s a sacrifice for them. I’ve lost track of how many driveways they’ve cleared after a snowstorm, appointments that they’ve taken their loved ones to, friends of mine that they have “adopted” when they needed a father or mother figure in their lives, and prayers that they’ve prayed for others. Now it’s our turn to return the favor and bless them the way they’ve blessed all of us.
Trusting that God has a plan for all of this, and everything is going to be okay.
