Support Joel Barham's Journey to University

Hello everyone,

My name is Joel Barham, and I’m reaching out to you with a humble and grateful heart. I am a 24-year-old young man who has lived in Monmouth County, NJ, since I was 2 years old. My journey to this point has been nothing short of a testament to faith, perseverance, and the kindness of others.

When I was just a toddler in Jamaica, I was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare cancer of the eye. Thanks to God’s grace and the medical visa that brought me to the United States, I received life-saving care at the incredible Sloan Kettering Hospital. I am forever thankful for the doctors, nurses, and staff who gave me a second chance at life.

Coming from an impoverished family, life hasn’t been easy. Growing up, I stayed in shelters and worked multiple jobs to support myself. Along the way, I was blessed by teachers, mentors, and friends who believed in me and helped me keep pushing forward. Their encouragement gave me the courage to dream of a brighter future.

For the past few years, I’ve been working hard to make that dream a reality. After studying at Brookdale Community College, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been accepted to the University of North Florida, where I plan to pursue my passion for engineering.

However, I face a significant hurdle. Even after working and saving diligently, I’m $2,000 short of the funds I need to pay for my tuition. I never thought I’d find myself in a position to ask for help like this, but I believe in the power of community and the kindness of people.

Every dollar you contribute will bring me closer to achieving my dream of becoming an engineer and being in a position to give back to others. I promise to carry forward the generosity and support that I’ve been blessed with throughout my life.
