Donation protected
While Joe was on his yearly vacation to Aruba, he caught pneumonia. He was promptly admitted to the hospital and was on oxygen. The pneumonia complicated his recovery and affected other areas of his body. His condition worsened and as he struggled for breath, he consented to a ventilator. Before they put him under, he expressed his hope to see all of his boys together.
At that point, the doctors in Aruba recommended he go back home when considering his heart condition. While his hospital visit was covered under insurance, the emergency medical transport was not - unless he was deceased. Susan was faced with an impossible choice. They have no cardiologists on staff in Aruba. To give Joe a fighting chance of surviving, she decided she needed to fly her husband home and fulfill his wish to see his sons.
This bill was $88,246 CAD! He was flown on a small plane with a doctor, a nurse and a respiratory therapist. John flew back with his father on Friday and we were all hopeful of his prognosis. Upon landing, Joe was transported by ambulance to Cortellucci Vaughan hospital. After a day, all 3 of sons were all there to watch their dad pass away on February 22, 2025.
In lieu of flowers or donations, please help Susan manage the financial burdens of the emergency medical flight. Any amount would be appreciated and go directly towards paying off that bill. In advance, the family thanks everyone for their support while they grieve the passing of this wonderful man.
"Thank you, Mom, for bringing Dad home." -Lenny, John and Chris
