Support Joe Swearingen's Bladder Cancer Battle

Update 7/2/21: my brother had his surgery on 6/25/21 surgery went well with no complications. Today we had his follow up appointment with his urologist. Pathology report came back he’s Stage 3. 

Now we go back to the oncologist in the 16th and pray that he figured out a way to treat this post op. 

Update: My brother had his medical oncology apt yesterday what he has is Urachal carcinoma. Dr Rahman said in his 30 years of doing oncology he has only seen this type of cancer one other time and that was in New Zealand. He said this cancer makes up less than 0.5% of tumors in the bladder. He reached out to another oncologist who basically told him he has a rare case on his hands. He does not have to have chemo before the surgery. With this particular cancer they said go straight to surgery. Dr. Rahman said that after his surgery he will follow up with him in three weeks during that time he is going to reach out to specialists across the US and if they have to they will send my brother to the Cleveland clinic or Sloan Memorial in New York or wherever else they feel they need to to get this treated post op correctly.

On June 4th 2021 my brother Joe was diagnosed with Mucinous Adenocarcinoma of the bladder. Mucinous Adenocarcinoma is a rare type of cancer, accounting for <2% of all bladder cancers. The next step before they do surgery to try to remove the cancer is he will have to have a consult with another surgeon as there will be 2 surgeons doing it, more tests to see if the cancer is metastatic adenocarcinoma from the GI tract or if it is primary from the bladder and meet with the oncologist team.

Joe has been off of work since he went into the ER on May 20th and is set to be off until further notice. Unfortunately he does not have medical insurance at this time. If you know my brother he is not one to ask for help and it took a lot of convincing to get him to agree to this. He is going to have medical bills but also just everyday normal life bills that he is still going to have to figure out how to pay while being off work and going through treatment and that is one less thing I would like to see him stress over.

Joe is a father of 3 amazing girls Samantha, Sarah and Savannah. He is a son, brother, uncle and friend who would do anything he could for anyone.
