Help Joe Keskinen Heal: A Journey From Diagnosis to Hope
In July 2022, Joe and Jan thought they had found their forever home when they moved from Pewaukee to Ashippun, Wisconsin. They loved the peaceful countryside, the extra space for gatherings with friends, and especially the dedicated workshop where Joe could continue his passion for woodworking.
But everything changed in March 2023.
Jan began noticing subtle but concerning changes in Joe — slurred speech, extreme fatigue, and a noticeable shift in his energy. Friends saw it too. After months of waiting, Joe finally saw a neurologist in August and was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Apraxia of Speech — a rare, degenerative neurological condition with no cure. It slowly robs individuals of their ability to speak, and eventually, more cognitive functions.
Joe bravely continued working for TSA at the Milwaukee airport until November 2024, when his speech had deteriorated so much that he was declared “unfit for duty.”
Desperate for answers beyond the grim diagnosis, Jan kept digging. A friend suggested testing for Lyme disease — but not just the standard screening. With the help of a functional medicine provider, they discovered that Joe not only tested positive for Lyme but also for toxic mold exposure.
The source? Their beloved home.
Mold was discovered throughout the house — hidden behind walls, under flooring, and in water-damaged areas they didn’t even know existed. The place they thought would bring peace had been silently making Joe sick. His speech and cognitive issues now had a root cause, and more importantly, a path to hope.
But healing comes at a cost — and it’s one insurance doesn’t cover.
Joe is now undergoing an aggressive treatment protocol that includes:
- Blood ozone therapy
- Hyperbaric oxygen treatments
- Antibiotics and natural supplements
- Infrared sauna therapy
- A strict anti-inflammatory protocol
To heal fully, Joe must be removed from the moldy environment entirely. That means professional remediation of their home, relocating, and safely packing and decontaminating all belongings — a process Joe cannot take part in due to his extreme sensitivity.
This is where we need your help.
Your donation will go directly toward:
- Mold remediation and safe removal from their current home
- Relocation expenses
- Medical treatments and therapies not covered by insurance
- Supplies to safely pack and move their belongings
Every dollar brings Joe closer to healing and gives this couple a chance at a healthier, brighter future.
Please consider donating — and sharing this with others who might be able to help.
With your support, we can give Joe the second chance he so deeply deserves.
Thank you for being part of Joe’s journey to recovery.
