“Who was Joe Hill?” That question was found scrawled on a rest room stall wall, only to be answered at a later date, "If you don't know...learn. If you do, then...teach."

Our original musical, entitled Labor’s Martyr: The Story of Joe Hill, intends to do precisely that: to educate, but also to entertain and inspire.

For those who don’t know Joe Hill: He was a Swedish immigrant, itinerant worker, singer, songwriter, and labor agitator as a member of the Industrial Workers of the World, sometimes called the "Wobblies." He wrote new lyrics to religious hymns in order to spread the word and organize for the union. Running afoul of the authorities in Utah, he was arrested, convicted, and executed for a murder he didn’t commit.

Our musical, written by Dr. Stephen A. Schrum (with the help of Glenn Plummer) is a timely reminder of problems faced today by those looking to find a better way of life in the United States of America. It also examines other issues facing the USA today, such as: Income Inequality, Wage Slavery, Unionization (and Anti-Union Sentiment), the Notion of Being Guilty Until Proven Innocent, Monopolies and Mergers, and Democracy vs. Theocracy.
