My name is Jodi, and I am reaching out on behalf of myself and my husband, Scott. Our lives changed dramatically right after Thanksgiving 2025, when I suffered a catastrophic bleed due to liver failure. I was rushed to the ICU, where I spent nine days intubated and in critical condition, followed by another ten days in the hospital. After my discharge, I was transferred to a sub-acute rehab facility to try to regain my ability to walk, but unfortunately, my recovery has been much harder than we hoped. I am now back in the hospital because my liver function remains poor, and I need to be discharged to a higher level of physical rehab so I can walk again and, hopefully, return home as soon as possible.

Imagine waking up after they save your life and realizing you cannot walk—not even one step, let alone being able to do the stairs or walk in our home. This is the reality I am facing now. Each day is a challenge, and the road to recovery feels long and uncertain, but I am determined to keep fighting for the chance to return to the life Scott and I built together.

This journey has been incredibly difficult for both Scott and me, not only emotionally but also in caring for our pets and supporting my rehabilitation. Scott's Family Leave Insurance will end in one week, and we are doing our best to care for our four beloved pets—Allie and Frida, our two small dogs; Wally, our elderly black cat; and Oreo, the outdoor cat we care for every day. Scott will not be able to return to work immediately, as I will still need him with me daily, often for many months to come, especially as I work to walk again.
