On what seemed like just another regular afternoon, between 3–5 PM, tragedy struck our home. No one was home at the time, except our beloved pets. When I, Jocelina Rodriguez, returned, I was shocked to find all the alarms in the house going off and the air quickly filling with smoke. In that moment, I could only focus on getting our pets to safety while the fire consumed the place we had just started to call home.

The fire impacted the kitchen and all of our bedrooms the most. Nearly everything we owned is now gone. Two of us lost 95% of our belongings—our clothes, personal items, and cherished memories that made up our lives. The house is considered a total loss.

This has been a heartbreaking experience for us. We had just moved in, worked tirelessly to make this house a home, and were excited to start the new year together in our fresh space. Now, we are faced with the unimaginable challenge of starting over.
