I’m Joaquín Gallegos, flamenco guitarist from Santa Fe, New Mexico.
I have an ambitious new project underway that I’m really excited to share with everyone!
I have travelled to Andalucía, southern Spain, this fall to record and mix several tracks for my upcoming album.
The compositions on the new album are based on the deep flamenco guitar tradition, and will have string arrangements and sections of gospel choir. This is a vision I’ve worked on since the pandemic. I’ve always loved soul music, and I dived into the well of gospel harmonies during that time.
I’ve always been in love with the sound of string instruments. There will also be string sections throughout the album. A mix of upright bass, cello, and violin. In some tracks, they will be sprinkled in as a little flavor, and in others they will have a more prominent roll. Think chamber music, more than orchestra. There will be some surprises..
In order to pay all of the amazing artists that I want to have on this album, including some very special singers from Spain, I will need a little help from my fans.
I need to pay the studio engineer, Tomy Alemania, a top tier engineer from Cádiz. Also Ktumba, the percussionist on the album. He is a legendary musician and producer from Chiclana, Cádiz, named Javier Mera Rodriguez, nicknamed Ktumba.
He tours the world with Spanish pop stars, playing stadiums. His father was a gypsy singer, and he is steeped in flamenco. He is so dynamic, he is endorsed by Latin Percussion, and also plays Salsa.
I will also be hiring some great singers from Cádiz. Their lyrics and choruses will add the essential element of cante, the song of flamenco.
I plan on shooting a music video at the end of October with a filmmaker from New Mexico named Luke Fitch. Fortunately, his travel plans work out in our favor for him to stop in Spain on his way back home from war torn Eastern Europe.
Javi, Ktumba, will give us access to some emblematic flamenco locations in Cádiz.
GoFundMe doesn’t require a gift for donors. However, I feel compelled to give back. I’ll give a copy of my album to anyone who donates $50 or more. For donations of $100 or more, an autographed copy of the album, and a guitar lesson with me.
For very generous donors, donations upwards of $250, VIP tickets to the album release concert will be provided, as well as a signed copy of the album. For anyone who donates $500 or more, VIP tickets to the album release concert, and two private guitar lessons. For donations of $1000 or more, a private house concert will be given, as well as the previous incentives.
For all of these generous donations, an autographed copy of the album will also be included.
UPDATE: I will be going into the studio this Wednesday for my first session with Ktumba. I am trying to reach $3000 out of the $4000 goal while I’m in Spain to help with this part of the journey. In order to pay the studio expenses, and the music video, I’ll need to hit that mark.
As well as giving incentive to donors, I feel compelled to give something tangible back. I am more than happy to give all that I am capable of back to those who help make this dream come true.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
