Support Joanne’s Fight Against Colon Cancer
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Gabriel De La Rosa, and I’m starting this GoFundMe on behalf of someone who means the world to me, my mother-in-law, Joanne Smith. Joanne is 64 years old and lives in Selma, Alabama. She’s not just my partner’s mom, she’s a second mother to me, a woman of grace, deep faith, and endless strength. Her recent diagnosis of stage 3 colon cancer turned our world upside down. Thankfully, doctors were able to catch it in time and perform surgery, but now Joanne is enduring chemotherapy and a heavy regimen of medications. The treatments are grueling, physically, emotionally, and financially. Like so many facing health battles, she’s now carrying the crushing weight of medical expenses she simply can’t manage alone.
Joanne is unable to work, and the financial strain grows by the week. From hospital bills, prescriptions, and travel costs for regular treatments in Birmingham (an hour and a half from her home in Selma), to essential home care needs and living expenses, every day brings new challenges. She can no longer do simple daily tasks without help. She needs assistance to walk across the house, often holding onto the walls for balance. Showers require supervision. Going to the store is no longer possible, even a trip to Walmart is too overwhelming due to the effects of her medication. Now, everything must be ordered to her home, adding additional expenses to an already overwhelming list.
We are asking for support to help cover medical bills and chemotherapy costs not covered by insurance, transportation and travel related expenses to and from Birmingham, lodging and meals when overnight hospital stays are required, home care needs, medical supplies, and essential items, as well as monthly living costs and unforeseen expenses during treatment. Your support, whether through a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing this campaign, means everything to us. Through it all, Joanne has never lost her faith. She tells us, “This is just another storm, and storms pass.” Her strength humbles us. Her spirit inspires us. If you knew Joanne, you’d know she’s the type of person who would give you her last dollar, say a prayer over you when you’re hurting, or call just to make sure you’re okay. Her kindness has touched so many lives, now, we’re asking for that love to come back to her in this moment of need.
Thank you for standing with Joanne, and for helping us give her the peace of mind she so deserves. With love and gratitude, Gabriel De La Rosa & Family.
