Hello! My name is Joanita Kyakimwa. I am 25 years old from Kasese, Uganda. I am asking for help with medical treatment and travel expenses. First, let me tell you a little bit about me.
I was born in a small village in the Kasese region in Western Uganda. My father left when I was 8 years old, and my mother raised me and my siblings alone. I was fortunate to attend Kasese Humanist School & Mt. Rwenzori Girls School Secondary School. I learned a lot about the value of helping others and caring for my community. I have helped to care for kids in need and care for my mum and brother. I graduated from Team University, where I studied Accounting and Finance. It has been difficult to get a job in this field here in Uganda, so I am currently working as a virtual assistant.
Sadly, my health has not been good. I have suffered greatly from neuropathy. I have arthritis in my knee and severe back pain. I now walk with an elbow crutch and take several medications daily. The doctors say there is something wrong with my spine; however, they do not have a definite diagnosis. I have spent most of my money on medical expenses, and my condition has only gotten worse. I would like to travel to Kampala where there is better access to higher quality medical treatment. One example is that in my village, there is nowhere to get an MRI. I will need to travel six hours to Kampala to get this test done and to receive the treatment I need. This is all very expensive, and I am out of options.
With your help, I can see the specialists and get the medical treatment that I need to survive. I want to continue helping others, and if I am cured, I can give back to my community.
Thank you so much!
