My name is Joanne, but friends and family know me as Jo, JoJo, or JoJo the Indian Girl (from Wail 99 in Key West, FL). Although Kevin—affectionately known as K-Mack, Mack-Daddy (on Seacrets radio station 98.1 in Ocean City, MD), or 'Jimmy Buffet's Worst Nightmare'—and I were separated for the last 10 years of our 29-year marriage, I remained his primary caregiver for over 15 years. Together with Roger, who is part of our family, the three of us shared our only car and supported each other through many challenges. Kevin recently passed away from vascular dementia, and I’m now facing a difficult road ahead.

The last four months of Kevin's illness were especially hard. Our only car, which the three of us shared, blew an engine. It was most economical to repair it, but we had to use up our summer savings and borrow the maximum allowed on our credit cards. At the same time, Kevin had extra, unforeseen expenses related to his living situation and care. Now, we also need funds to ship some of Kevin's belongings to friends and family, and to cover moving out and trash removal expenses from Kevin's home. Everything seemed to happen at once, and it left me with bills and medical expenses that Medicare and Medicaid did not cover.

It's always been a humbling experience to ask for help. Kevin (K-Mack, Mack-Daddy, 'Jimmy Buffet's Worst Nightmare') hated asking for help, but I reminded him of all the fundraisers he played for free—the weddings, the wakes, the good times. He made thousands happy playing what he called, 'Good Times Music.' He would give you the shirt off his back, as well as his very well-worn Kinos. He was a good man who always thought of others before himself, even when he was in pain. He had his demons and a lot of emotional as well as physical pain, much of which he hid from those closest to him. The only person he ever intentionally hurt was himself.

Repairing our car, shipping Kevin's belongings, and covering moving and trash removal expenses, as well as bills, will help me (Jo/JoJo) and Roger regain some stability and independence as we try to move forward after losing Kevin (K-Mack/Mack-Daddy). If you can donate or share this fundraiser, it would mean the world to us. Thank you for any support you can give.
