My name is Jo Bear and I am a poet, scholar, and educator raising money to help offset the costs of my upcoming top surgery procedure in March.

While current policies make it likely that my insurance will be able to cover the cost of the surgery itself, the landscape of legislation and ever-increasing restriction surrounding trans lives and livelihoods make it very uncertain how things will unfold in the next several months.

Money raised through this fundraiser will make it possible for my wonderful parents to come and stay with me for the first week after surgery and significantly decrease the financial strain of my recovery. It will also assist with the costs of cat care for my two beloved (and high-maintenance) kittens, help cover the loss of income during my recovery, and create a safeguard in the event of any unexpected medical bills.

This procedure will redefine my relationship to my body in ways I can only begin to imagine. Your support is such a vital part of this ongoing healing and one for which I am profoundly grateful. Thank you for your part in making this a reality!
