Support JMU's PBX Fraternity
Donation protected
*This fundraiser is now closed to donations. Thank you to everyone who helped our team provide grief support to the PBX family and the greater JMU community. Please see the updates for additional information on how the generosity of so many is making a difference.
Hi there. My name is Stephanie Fowler, and I'm a long-time friend of two current PBX moms. One of them, Dr. Jennifer Livingood, has organized a therapy team from Watermark Psychological Services that specializes in trauma and grief work to care for the boys of PBX as they process the tragic loss of their brothers.
This team will be led by Dr. Lisa Mazzio of Norfolk, VA, a licensed therapist with more than 20 years of experience in the field.
The care plan will include group sessions with the entire fraternity, as well as smaller break-out sessions by classes and leadership levels. The support team will also conduct a virtual parent support session and coordinate follow-up care and referrals as needed.
My role is simply to set up the fund so that parents and friends can donate to cover the cost. The funds collected will be forwarded directly to Watermark's business account when billing occurs.
The initial cost estimate for this care is $3,500, which includes 2 days of travel and lodging for the team. We're setting our initial goal at $5,000 to cover this estimate plus unexpected expenses and additional therapy that may be needed in the weeks to come.
Right now, the PBX boys are coming together to process the shock and grief of this trauma, and how they do this can make all the difference. In the weeks and months to come, the needs will still be great. It's critical to give the boys the leadership and support they need now to mitigate and weather future mental health issues.
We hope you will join the parent support session as you care for your sons and their beloved fraternity brothers. Please also consider donating to help offset the overall cost and make this care affordable for everyone.
Feel free to share this page with your family members and friends who, like me, are asking you how they can help.
**For anyone who is unaware, 5 members of the Pi Beta Chi (PBX) fraternity at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA were in a tragic car accident on the evening of Thursday, February 2. To our great sadness, three of the boys perished and the two survivors were hospitalized. This gofundme has been established to support the entire PBX membership with professional mental health services as they mourn their fraternity brothers and begin navigating the difficult weeks and months ahead.
Because of the outpouring of support, these health services will be expanded beyond the PBX family and to other students in the greater JMU community who are struggling with this tragic loss. These services may include group and individual therapy as well as an on-campus memorial for remembrance and reflection for the entire JMU family.
Funds raised here will be disbursed directly to cover payments for the professional services and other expenditures disclosed publicly on this gofundme page. Please check the posted updates for additional information moving forward. Freel free to reach out via email with any questions. Thank you!
