On the morning of March 12, Jingyi Wang, a 25-year-old PhD student in economics at Iowa State University, was involved in a serious bicycle accident while on her way to proctor an exam. She suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and remains in a deep coma. At this time, we do not know when she will wake up, what the next stage of her recovery will look like, or whether she may eventually need to be transferred back to China for long-term care. What we do know is that her condition is critical, the road ahead is deeply uncertain, and the financial burden is overwhelming. Your donation would make a real difference in giving Jingyi more time, more care, and a better chance. We really appreciate your support.
Jingyi is brilliant, warm, and deeply loved. She is passionate about microeconomics and dreams of becoming a thoughtful, independent, and caring professor who can inspire students and contribute meaningful research. At Iowa State, she has already made a strong impact as a student and teaching assistant. She ranked 1st in her PhD level class and she is nominated for the Teaching Excellence Award due to her popularity among undergraduate students. She is known for her patience, kindness, and generosity, and she has brought energy, encouragement, and light to classmates, friends, and everyone around her.
Beyond her academic life, Jingyi is someone who lifts others up. She is loving, hardworking, and full of hope. After losing her father nine years ago, she became a source of strength for her family, encouraging her younger brother in his education and helping her loved ones keep going through difficult times. She is also a wonderful partner, caregiver, and friend whose warmth and optimism have touched many lives.
Jingyi comes from a single-parent family, and the financial burden is already overwhelming. Jingyi is in intensive care at Mercyone in Des Moines right now. Donations will help with medical bills, rehabilitation and long-term care costs, travel and living expenses for family members coming to support her in the U.S., and possible medical transport expenses if she needs to return to China in the future. Most of these costs are not covered by insurance.
We are asking for your help to give Jingyi the time, care, and support she needs, and to help her family carry this enormous burden through an incredibly difficult and uncertain period. We still have hope, and your generosity can make a meaningful difference. Thank you for reading, for sharing, and for supporting Jingyi and her family.
