On August 5th, our dad, Jim Gorzkiewicz, was at home when he suddenly lost much of his vision and mobility. After arriving at the hospital, we learned he had suffered a major stroke; doctors also discovered that he had previously experienced six smaller strokes without him realizing it.
On August 20th, he left the hospital, and now continues the hard work of recovery. The stroke left him with significant vision loss and weakness on his left side, making everyday tasks very challenging. Despite everything, he remains motivated and positive, determined to regain as much function as possible.
This has all come at a very difficult time. Earlier this year, our dad was laid off from his longtime job as a systems engineer at First National Bank. Shortly after, he lost his own father. He spent the next couple months helping his mom and family through that loss, and had just begun job searching when this medical emergency happened. Because of the layoff, he does not have insurance to cover the costs of his hospital stay, rehab, and ongoing care.
We are raising funds to help cover hospital bills, home expenses (wheelchair, supports, etc), and comprehensive physical therapy that will give him the best chance at recovery. Our dad has always been a caring, supportive father and friend, and we want to make sure he has every resource available to heal and regain his independence.
Any amount you can give will make a difference. Thank you for supporting our dad during this time, it truly means a lot.
Much love and appreciation,
Tommy, Louise, and Eva Gorzkiewicz
