Help Us Support Our Dad, Jim – A Fighter Living with Muscular Dystrophy
Hi, my name is Jill, and I’m reaching out on behalf of someone incredibly special—my dad, Jim.
My dad has lived with muscular dystrophy for most of his life. He wasn’t diagnosed until his teenage years, but he never let it stop him from living a full life. He built a career, started a business, and raised a family with love and dedication. One of my earliest memories is of him taking me golfing—something he loved and did as often as he could, even as his muscles weakened.
Growing up, I didn’t realize just how remarkable he was. He’d take me to work with him and teach me about the power of a positive mental attitude. He believed deeply that anything is possible if you work hard and stay focused. He lived that belief every day.
Muscular dystrophy is a degenerative disease that slowly breaks down the body’s muscles. It’s often compared to ALS, but progresses more slowly—which can make it even more difficult to endure over a lifetime. For over 55 years, my dad has faced this disease head-on, without complaint, and with unshakable resilience.
But the physical toll has been unimaginable. Since 2002, he’s suffered multiple severe falls: shattering both hips, both shoulders, and enduring countless injuries—some requiring stitches, others just love, time, and care. We’ve lost count of how many times we’ve picked him up, bandaged his wounds, and fought to keep him safe. The truth is, my dad can’t go anywhere without a secure vehicle—and finding one that works for his needs is extremely difficult and expensive. He has even fallen out of cars during transport, adding to his injuries and medical bills.
Despite everything, my dad continues to work from home every day, managing his small business, and spreading positivity to everyone he meets. But now, we’re at a crossroads. My mom is also disabled, and as a single mother of three, I’m doing everything I can—but we can’t do this alone anymore.
The donated car he uses needs expensive maintenance and new tires. He has no reliable access to home care, transportation, grooming, or even basic medical help. We’ve applied for every form of assistance—Medicare, Medicaid, disability—but red tape, delays, and disqualifications have left us with nowhere to turn. Even our local church, as kind as they are, says he must be “self-sufficient.”
So, we’re asking for your help.
We’re hoping to raise up to $50,000 to support Jim with:
• Reliable, safe transportation when his car is unavailable
• Home health care to help him get in and out of bed, manage daily tasks, groom and stay safe
• emergency Car maintenance and accessibility modifications
• Mortgage/bills assistance, so he can continue living in his home
• Emergency medical costs such as lifting equipment or home modification.
Jim has given his whole life to others—his family, his work, and his community. Now, we’re hoping to give something back to him.
If you’ve ever known someone who keeps smiling through pain, keeps working through setbacks, and keeps giving even when they have little left—then you’ve known someone like my dad. Please consider donating or sharing this page. Every little bit helps us move toward a safer, more dignified life for someone who truly deserves it.
From the bottom of our hearts—thank you.
With love,
Jill & family
