Support Jim's Battle Against Aggressive Brain Cancer
Don protégé
Hi, my name is Meghan, and I’m fundraising for my dad, Jim, who is courageously battling one of the most devastating and aggressive forms of brain cancer: glioblastoma.
Earlier this year, our lives changed forever when my dad was diagnosed with multifocal, diffuse glioblastoma—a rare and particularly difficult form of this already deadly disease. Because the tumors are inoperable and widespread, many of the standard treatments haven’t been as effective. He’s completed radiation and chemotherapy, but the cancer has returned and is progressing.
We’ve consulted with multiple major hospitals in the U.S., and most have told us there’s nothing curative they can offer. But my dad is not ready to give up—and neither are we.
After doing weeks of research, we’ve found a promising opportunity abroad: dendritic cell therapy at a specialized immunotherapy clinic in Cologne, Germany called IOZK (Immun-Onkologisches Zentrum Köln). This treatment uses a patient’s own immune system to help fight the cancer in a personalized and targeted way. It has shown hope in extending survival and improving quality of life for glioblastoma patients—especially in cases like my dad’s where conventional treatment has failed.
The challenge is that this treatment is not covered by insurance. Everything—from the immune cell collection and vaccine production to testing—must be paid entirely out of pocket, and the cost of treatment alone is €72,000 ( $84,000 USD).
The costs for treatment, travel, and lodging are overwhelming. My dad is extremely proud and has never been one to ask for help. In fact, he would much rather take on every burden himself than let anyone carry it for him. But he shouldn’t have to face this fight alone, and he shouldn’t have to worry about whether he can afford a chance to stay alive. He deserves this opportunity—and all the support in the world.
We’re preparing to travel to Germany as soon as next week (the beginning of August 2025) to begin this therapy and give Jim the best possible chance. If you’re able to help in any way—through a donation or by sharing this page—it would mean more than words can say. Every dollar will go directly toward covering the cost of his treatment, travel, and care. My dad wants to fight with everything he has, and this therapy is our best—and possibly only—chance to give him more time with us.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with us during this incredibly difficult time.
For those of you who know Jim, you know how amazing he is and knows he is one of the best, you'll never meet a better guy.
